The timing seems to overlap, so it is unlikely that these are the same. There was a "Black Guard" around 1500 in northern Germany, which might be the orign for both, though. On the other hand, "black" was a synonym for "elite" in that era, so the similarity might be random. ASchudak (talk) 21:35, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I found a reference that confirms that the Black Band of Geldern, which was previously fighting in Frisia and had occupied and sacked the town of Norden in 1514 was substantially hired by France, with some of its members going home or into Imperial service. Sadly I have dumped the link, but when I found it I will change the introduction accordingly. The Arumer Zwarte Hoop is different, but may come from members of the old Black Band that did not take up French service - its origin fits perfectly with the transfer of the Black Band from Frisia to France. I am quite sure that this Black Band and the Black guard of Dithmarshen some 15 years have a continuity, too, but are yet unable to find a reference to proof this.ASchudak (talk) 18:32, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
