Qin Huasun[edit]

- Not interesting and a coatrack, since Huasun is surely not the person who made these decisions. (t · c) buidhe 00:07, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Buidhe: As Qin represented his country in the UNSC, he made the decision based on his country's political position. However, prior to 2011, China's vetoes in the UNSC were rare and only four times [1] were it used prior to the start of the 21st century. Since the mentioned vetoes were related to sending peacekeeping troops, it might be interesting as the users would look into the article to see why the peacekeeping resolutions were vetoed. However, if you any ideas for another hook in the article or if I should modify it in a certain phrasing, I am happy to consider that. - Toadboy123 (talk) 09:12, 7 May 2024 (UTC).
- Yes, I know how the UN works. Certainly the hook phrasing makes it sound like a coatrack. Frankly not all articles are suited for DYK and this one may not be. Peacekeeping is not inherently dull but UN resolutions can be, especially if there is no real information what the vote is really about. Furthermore, the article as it stands does not qualify due to sourcing. (t · c) buidhe 13:23, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Buidhe: Is there anything that I should do to improve the article such as adding more reliable sources or expanding the information regarding the reasons of the vetoed resolutions so that the article can be featured in DYK ? Or does the article does not have the information much needed for the DYK? I can improve the article based on your suggestions but if you feel there is no room for it in DYK then you can cancel this nomination. - Toadboy123 (talk) 02:26, 7 May 2024 (UTC).

- Much to whinge about here I'm afraid. As written, the biography section would deserve {{subsections}}, and much of its early paragraphs can feel more than a bit WP:Proseline at times and would deserve {{prose}}. None of the hook has an end-of-sentence citation, and given that WP:CLUMP says that "more than three [references] should generally be avoided", I'm not going through four. - @Launchballer: Didn't see an unsourced chunk, but just a sentence that mentions Zer0 will maintain his IGL role for the new team. In any case, I added the proper source for that now. Addressing the sources you brought up:
- Ref 1 (tweet from DarkZero and sources just his birth day & month);
- Ref 3 (Video from his former org Reignite, sourcing himself stating his name),
- Ref 4 (another esports org (FFL/Fennel) interviewing Zer0, this just sources himself saying he is from Brisbane),
- Ref 5 (this is just EXO Clan announcing their roster addition of Zer0),
- Ref 11 (this is an official ALGS esports account to source Zer0 winning MVP of a tournament),
- Ref 12 (this is Reignite announcing the departure of Zer0, added to source the exact 4 July 2022 date mentioned in article)
- Ref 26 (this is sourcing an interview where Zer0 himself states he himself had a reputation of choking match points)
- Ref 28 (this is an additional source to reference Zer0 being discussed as one of the best IGLs in the world, with source being from a post-tournament interview of Zer0 and posted onto the aforementioned official ALGS esports account from Ref. 11)
- I fail to see the issue with any of these sources and how they would not be reliable? None of the information Zer0 states about himself (Refs. 3, 4, 26) is in violation of WP:SELFSOURCE. Ref 1 is also not in violation of that. The other sources are just citing official roster announcements (Ref 5, 12), or are from an official account of the sport's organizing body (Refs 11 and 28). I don't see how the use of these sources, particularly for what they are citing are in violation of WP:PRIMARY, for example. Soulbust (talk) 16:27, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

AGF on the sources. Hook is interesting but it's cited to the Athletic; so AGF here too. A couple of issues: (1) his height is listed as 6-4 and also as 6-2. - The hook is a bit confusing. What does "organized football game" mean? If you get the context, yes it's interesting, but without the context it may be confusing. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:36, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- I find it understandable, but would saying something like, e.g., his first "formal" game, be better? BeanieFan11 (talk) 01:28, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think that helps. If the point is that the first he placed an actual game of American football while in the NFL and never played the game before, that could probably be made clearer. Adding that he actually started out as a basketball player might also add interest. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 01:51, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- As an aside, it's almost a week since the nomination so a QPQ will need to be given sooner rather than later. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 01:51, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

- Throwing out some possible ALTs, re-wording is welcome:
- ALT1 ... that Kenneth Odumegwu played soccer and basketball in Nigeria before being selected as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program?
- ALT2 ... that prior to appearing for the Green Bay Packers in a 2023 pre-season game, Kenneth Odumegwu had never played an organized American football game before?
- There might be a better way to word ALT2 to address my concerns about what "organized" means, these suggestions are more for brainstorming purposes. Pinging Gonzo_fan2007 for his thoughts. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 09:07, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- I am fine with Alt2 if Beanie is. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 20:54, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- Meh, I don't think that's as interesting a hook, not to mention I'm not sure I see how that would alleviate the "organized" concern? Though, if we're going with that style, what about: ALT3 ... that prior to playing in the NFL, Kenneth Odumegwu had never appeared in an organized American football game? - Nineteen Ninety-Four guy, you don't mention the image in your review. Is it appropriate and adequately visible to be run with any of the hooks? Given that ALT0a doesn't mention Fat Cat by name, or his means of death, the image caption doesn't really go with the hook. (I just looked, and the image here is not currently in the article, having been swapped out for another one on 20 May, which makes it ineligible for DYK usage. I'll let you decide whether the new image is useful and should be included here instead as part of your updated review—I can't tell whether they're even pictures of the same bridge!) BlueMoonset (talk) 04:29, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset: I apologize about that, and thanks for striking through the rejected hooks. As a follow-up, the images on both this entry and the boldlinked article are freely-licensed, albeit swapped out; but neither one is used in the approved hook, thus hook image is clearly not going to end up in the main page. That being said, the alt hook is interesting enough that it can manage without either image caption; I just hope the DYK prepper places it at the bottom of the queue or nearby it at least.
