May 2024[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. JBW (talk) 09:02, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You indicate below you are leaving Wikipedia. It is not possible to delete an account, as all edits legally must be attributable to someone, but you are free to abandon your account. Note that the block is on you, the person sitting at the computer operating this account, not just the account, so if you change your mind later, you will need to request unblock via this account. 331dot (talk) 08:12, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Had no idea you couldn't do this. My company has a history we want to educate users about. We don't need Wikipedia for promotion, we have Google and Meta for that. But the authentic story about our business is noteworthy for readers and wikipedia seemed like the right place for that knowledge to be shared. Wikipedia articles gave advice that if you are a business or company, you can not create an article but post a 'user:page' rather as not to go against the wikipedia guidelines. Why would wikipedia recommended this, then say I am blocked because we are promoting our business, when we just want to publish our story which has significant history, value and relevance in the adventure tourism industry. Our competitors have pages, so why can't we? A response would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Decline reason:

That username is no better. Nor have you addressed your violation of WP:COI. "we just want to publish our story which has significant history, value and relevance in the adventure tourism industry"; yes, this is promotion and not allowed here. You indicate your competitors have created pages. That's a very serious accusation. Either retract it or provide your specific evidence that they have done so. Yamla (talk) 12:15, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my gosh! What a highly unprofessional and aggressive response! We have just retracted our donation... it is not ok to address ANYONE in such a way.
Here is evidence of of our fellow tour operators 'running' a Wikipedia page... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G_Adventures

Wikipedia is not a business directory, so a company is not entitled to have a Wikipedia article just because it exists. All topics must be notable by Wikipedia's definition to merit inclusion. In the specific case of a company, it must meet the notability criteria for companies and organizations. For this to happen, the company must have already received significant coverage in multiple reliable and independent sources. We have no interest in what a company wishes to say about itself, as this is an inherent conflict of interest. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 12:33, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We're not looking for a business directory! We want to tell our owners story, which is VERY significant, just as our competitors have done on Wikipedia -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G_Adventures
"G Adventures: Our Story". G Adventures. Nomad Africa Tours (talk) 12:45, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's an article about your competitor. Please provide your specific evidence that it was written by people directly associated with that company. Which specific editors are you accusing here and what is your specific evidence? --Yamla (talk) 12:47, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, Wikipedia is not the place to tell your owners story. Use your own website or social media or buy an ad somewhere if this is what you want to do. --Yamla (talk) 12:50, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not accusing anyone. And have no idea who wrote the article, or how the article was created... just that it references our competitors official story, therefore we will get an external party to create an article on our story. We have no idea how Wikipedia works, only that we were guided to do a 'user:page' because we were a business, and that's the route we thought was the right way. Clearly not, judging by your rude response. Thank you for your time... I have you have a lovely day/night. Nomad Africa Tours (talk) 12:53, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
NO YOU WILL NOT solicit an external party to edit on your behalf. I'm done here, I will not respond further. --Yamla (talk) 12:54, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well clearly we were misinformed and ill guided into what was possible. We certainly don't want to breach any guidelines, rules, or other - especially since we are so fond of Wikipedia. We saw other companies like us have 'articles' up and thought this was the place to legitimately create one, we are sorry that this cause such an aggressive row! Not our intention.
We request that this account be deleted, and apologise for the error. Mistakes happen, guys. Nomad Africa Tours (talk) 13:04, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
